The library ACCUMULATED KNOWLEDGE

The Lilienfeld Abbey library has been at its current location in the south wing of the monastery since around 1700. It contains around 40,000 printed volumes and journals, 229 manuscripts and 120 incunabula. The oldest prints include Bibles from the 1520s.

During the dissolution of the monastery in 1789, the majority of the original Lilienfeld book collection was lost. These losses were compensated for by purchases and takeovers of books from abandoned monasteries and orders (e.g. Paulaner in Vienna, Mariazell Monastery in Austria, Jesuits). This is why books of various origins can be found at the Lilienfeld Abbey library today. In addition to the old book collection, the original baroque furnishings of the state room are remarkable. The Lilienfeld Abbey library can be visited as part of a guided tour.
